Title: Essentials of Renewable Energy Technology and Solutions
The energy discourse is an important one particularly for Small Island Developing States (SIDS).
Fluctuations in oil and gas markets have made it necessary for countries to seek a sustainable roadmap
for economic growth, energy security, and diversification of the energy mix. Furthermore, many countries
have realized the need to decarbonize the energy industry to reduce the impacts of global warming and
climate change. Irrespective of discipline an appreciation of the importance of renewable energy is
essential. This course aims to introduce students to the fundamentals of Renewable Energy.

This course will give a comprehensive introduction to renewable (alternative) energy systems and their
applications. Content will include an exploration of global energy systems with a focus on the renewable
energy for Caribbean states. Through a strategically structured approach, the major sustainable energy
sources will be explored to appeal to both scientifically and non-scientifically minded students. The
interdisciplinary nature of the content will allow for cross-faculty applications.
