The Department of Physics congratulates Miss Jhordanne Jones whose article entitled “Statistical downscaling of the North Atlantic tropical cyclone frequency and the amplified role of the Caribbean low-level jet in a warmer climate” was highlighted for its significance by the World Meteorological Organization (WMO). (WMO decision document, 5.1/1). See:
Miss Jones will be graduating from her Ph.D. programme at Colorado State University next summer. She will move to Purdue University in Lafayette, Indiana for postdoctoral study where she will work with Professor Dan Chavas and his Climate and Extreme Weather group. She will explore interannual and seasonal climate controls on the steering and track of landfalling hurricanes. The project is important for improving global climate model representations of hurricane variability and bridging the gap between weather and climate for better decision-making.
