SAFETY RULES FOR LABORATORY WORK

  1. Learn the location and operation procedures of the nearest fire extinguishers and fire alarm box.
  2. All accidents, injuries, explosions, or fires must be reported to the laboratory instructor as soon as possible.
  3. Report any equipment that you suspect is malfunctioning.
  4. No eating or drinking is allowed in the lab rooms.
  5. Smoking is NOT permitted in the buildings.
  6. Act in a responsible manner at all times. No horseplay will be tolerated in the lab or experimental area.
  7. Be alert and attentive at all times.
  8. Perform all experiments as directed. Do not do anything which is not part of an approved experimental procedure.
  9. Follow all instructions given in the lab; both written and verbal. When in doubt – ASK. 
  10. Always wear appropriate clothing to the lab: no sandals, no shorts, limit your jewelry. Pin or clip long hair to keep it away from moving objects.
  11. Read all written procedures in advance and understand what you are required to do. Know the hazards before you perform any experiment.
  12. Follow electrical and laser safety rules as described by your instructor.
