Requirement to Withdraw and Academic Warning

  • Except where otherwise prescribed in the Faculty’s regulations, a student whose GPA for a given semester is less than 2.0 shall be deemed to be performing unsatisfactorily, and shall be placed on warning.  A student on warning whose GPA for the succeeding semester is less than 2.0 shall automatically be required to withdraw.
  • A student who has been required to withdraw from the University may apply for re-admission one (1) year after withdrawal.
  • A student wishing to continue may apply to the Dean for a waiver of the requirement to withdraw.
  • Applications for waiver of the requirement to withdraw or for re-admission after the minimum period of one year will be considered on their own merit and will only succeed if the Faculty is satisfied that the circumstances attending the reasons for the withdrawal have altered substantially.
  • Requests for waiver of the requirement to withdraw shall be submitted through the Automated Student Request System (ASRS) via SAS on or before the end of the first week of teaching in September (Semester 1), January (Semester 2) and June for students desirous of pursuing courses in Summer School.
  • Students thus re-admitted to a Faculty may in accordance with its regulations be granted exemption from Level 1 courses subject to there being no change in the content of the courses and provided that no more than five (5) years have elapsed since the date of withdrawal.  Level II University courses, for the purposes of exemption, may be treated in the same way as Level 1 Faculty courses.
  • Students who are readmitted after sitting out an academic year and whose record indicated general weakness may qualify for Academic Forgiveness.   For details, click here.
  • Students whose performance in the Level 1 courses indicated general weakness (e.g., bare passes in all courses) may be required by the Faculty to repeat Level 1 Faculty courses.
  • Students from one faculty who had been required to withdraw from the University for failing to complete their degree programme within the stipulated period may be admitted to another faculty after a minimum period of one (1) year has elapsed since their withdrawal.  Such students may be granted exemption from Level 1 courses relevant to the new programme subject to regulations above.
