The Marubeni Scholarship engineering

The award is available to Full time student registered in any Faculty of Engineering.

Recipients must be in 2nd Year (Entering Final Year) of study and pursuing BSc. in Electrical Power Engineering at the UWI, Mona campus. 

 USD 5000.00 Five (5) One (1) year

The following terms and conditions apply:

  • Participation in facility tours, meetings and other forms of engagement with sponsors.
  • Student may be in receipt of a student loan but still in financial need. 

The award will be based on:

  • Academic performance based on the results of the previous year University examinations (minimum GPA of 3.0).
  • Verifiable financial need;
  • Demonstrates leadership qualities, volunteerism and social involvement.

 

Short-listed candidates will be interviewed by a panel consisting of representatives from the donor company and UWI Development and Endowment Fund.

The recipient of this award will:

  • Be available for a photo opportunity and provide written testimony on the usefulness of the assistance granted.
  • Be available to participate in any official ceremony related to the formal presentation of the scholarship award.
The Medical Association of Jamaica 60th Anniversary Scholarship medsci

The award is available to candidates who:

  • Are a full-time, final-year student in the MBBS programme at UWI.
  • Maintain a minimum GPA of 2.5.
  • Demonstrate verifiable financial hardship that could otherwise impede the completion of their medical degree.
  • Demonstrated community/peer involvement, including co-curricular activities, volunteerism, and leadership experience.

 

 $1,000,000 JMD One (1) One (1) academic year (Final Year of Study)

Shortlisted candidates will be interviewed by personnel from the Office of Student Financing.
  • Curriculum Vitae (CV)
  •  A 500-word essay detailing the applicant's passion for medicine, their leadership experiences, how this scholarship will impact their final year, and their future career aspirations.  
  • Two (2) letters of recommendation:
    • One from a UWI faculty member.
    • One from an individual who can attest to the applicant’s community service or leadership abilities.
The Meggo-Whyte Grant - For Books

The award is available to registered students who are:

  • Jamaican nationals;
  • pursuing studies on the Mona Campus leading to a first degree in any faculty;

 

 J $50,000.00 each semester Two (2) One (1) year

The award will be based on:

  • financial need;

Candidates will be selected by the Office of Student Financing and the Donor.
The Michael Anthony Pickersgill Scholarship socsci

The award is available to: 

  • Clarendon College alumni;
  • students who have successfully matriculated to the UWI or completed Year 1 or 2 of the BSc Degree in Economics in the Faculty of Social Sciences at The UWI, Mona;
 J$300,000.00 One (1) per annum One (1) year October 23, 2020

The award will be based on:

  • high academic performance based on CAPE Results or maintain at least a B average or a GPA of 3.0 or higher at The UWI;
  • demonstrable financial need;
  • demonstrable community involvement and leadership qualities.

Short-listed candidates will be interviewed by a panel including personnel from UWI, the Donor and any other representative, as selected by the Donor.

Application shall be accompanied with the following documents:

  • UWI acceptance letter for new students;
  • UWI transcript (in the case of 2nd or 3rd year applicants);
  • one page essay on the applicant's educational goals;
  • two character reference letters.

The Michael Haughton Opportunity Scholarship

The award is available to full time students registered in the Undergraduate Degree programme who have completed at least one(1) level of the programme and are:

  • registered in the Faculty of Medical Sciences, Science and Technology, Social Sciences or Law at The University of the West Indies, Mona;
  • Jamaican national;
  • from the Parish of Trelawny ;
  • first in family to attend university.

 

 CAD $3000 One (1) One (1) year

The award will be based on:

  • good academic standing;
  • verifiable financial need;
  • demonstrable involvement in community and co-curricular activities;

Satisfying all other requirements of The UWI pertaining to Students’ behaviour and performance. 

 

Short-listed candidates will be interviewed by a panel comprising personnel from the UWI and the donor. 

The applicant must write an essay on one or all of the following:

  1. The Importance of giving back and paying it forward to fellow Jamaicans;
  2. The importance of living sustainably in Jamaica inclusive of the impacts of over tourism and Global Warming on the island;
  3. The role higher education plays on Jamaican society’s development. 
The Norbert Fullerton Actuarial Scholarship fst

The award is available to Jamaican Nationals at the Mona Campus who are:

  • Pursuing Level II or III of their studies;
  • Registered in the Faculty of Science and Technology pursuing a B.Sc degree with a major in Mathematics or Actuarial Science.
 US $2,125.00 One (1) per annum One (1) year

The award will be based on:

  • Academic performance based on the results of the previous academic year University examinations (at least a GPA of 3.3);
  • Demonstrable community/co-curricularinvolvement;
  • Strong leadership skills.

Shortlisted candidates will be interviewed by a panel comprising personnel from the University of the West Indies and Donor Agency.
The North Street United Education Development Foundation Bursary medsci

The award is available to students registered in the second year of the Undergraduate Degree programme at UWI Mona pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and:

  1. are Jamaican Nationals;
  2. must reside in the corporate area including Portmore;

 

 JMD $175,000 One (1) per annum Three (3) years

The award will be based on: 

  • verifiable financial need; 
  • high academic performance with at least a Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.0 in the previous academic year of the UWI examinations;
  • Involvement in co-curricular/community activities; 
  • Leadership qualities etc. 

 

 
  1. The scholarship will be advertised on the University’s website.
  2. Candidates will be interviewed by a panel comprising personnel from the University and the donors.
The Nyle Stewart Memorial Scholarship medsci

The award is available to full-time Jamaican students who are:

  •  registered in the Faculty of Medical Sciences pursuing a B.Sc. in Physical Therapy;
  • entering year one of the programme.
 Tuition One (1) Three (3) Years

Students must maintain a 3.0 Grade Point Average (G.P.A) in order to continue on the award each year.

 The award will be based on:

  •    Achievement of grades I- III in Units I and 2 in any two of the following CAPE subjects: Mathematics, Physics, Biology, Chemistry
  •    Financial need
  •   Preference will be given to students from St. George’s College 

Selection will be done by a panel comprising the Donor and UWI.
The Patsy Latchman Atterbury Scholarship socsci

The award is available to full time students who are: 

  • under 30 years of age;
  • registered to pursue a BSc Degree in Entrepreneurship or Business Management in the Faculty of Social Sciences at The UWI, Mona;
 J$300,000.00 One (1) per annum One (1) year October 23, 2020

The award will be based on: 

  • high academic performance based on CAPE Results or maintain at least a B average or a GPA of 3.0 or higher at The UWI;
  • demonstrable financial need;
  • demonstrable community involvement and leadership qualities.

Short-listed candidates will be interviewed by a panel including personnel from UWI, the Donor and any other representative, as selected by the Donor.

The Racquel Joseph Scholarship

The award is avaiable to registered full-time undergraduate students at the Mona Campus who are: 

  • Jamaican nationals
  • Graduates of the Sir Clifford Campbell Primary School

 

 

 CAD$3,000.00 To be decided by Donor 1 year

Students must submit an original essay of no more than one thousand (1000) words. The essay shall be the applicant's own work and no part thereof shall be generated using artificial intelligence or copies from another source, except where properly cited.  The essay shall be on one of the following:

  • Why is it important to give back to communities in Jamaica; or 
  • The role a university education plays in Jamaica's socio-economic development.

If the recipient fails to maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA at the end of semester one, the scholarship recipient forfeits the remainder of the scholarship.

 

The award will be base on: 

  • A record of high academic achievement by maintaining a minimum GPA of 3.0; 
  • Demonstrable financial need;
  • involvement in community or co-curricular activities or services;

 

Shortlisted candidate(s) will be interviewed by a panel comprising of the UWI and the donor
