FSS Alumna Shullette Cox appointed new JAMPRO CEO

Join us in congratulating Shullette Cox a FSS Alumna who has been appointed as the new President of JAMPRO. During her time at the university she was an International Relations and Economics double major. This a testament for where she has landed herself today. In January the Board of Directors at JAMPRO appointed Ms.Cox as the acting President from her long term position of Vice President. Here she led a team which recently did the highly successful Ministerial Mission to Guyana. Since Ms.Cox did such impeccable work in this position Chairman, Mrs.

Book Donation – Embassy of the Argentine Republic

Coming out of our Partnerships for Development presentation, we are happy to announce that on December 16, 2022 the Embassy of the Argentine Republic kindly donated to the faculty and the UWI Mona books on the Malvinas. Specifically, we received, The International Community and the Malvinas Question; The Malvinas, the South Georgias and the South Sandwich Islands, the conflict with Britain and A 50 anos de la Resolucion 2065 (xx) de las Naciones Unidas.

Partnerships for Development

The Faculty of Social Science hosted on November 24, 2022 an introductory presentation of the Faculty to the diplomatic community in Jamaica with the intention of garnering partnerships that will benefit staff and students of the faculty.

The event was spearheaded by Associate Dean Dr Lisa Vasciannie and saw representatives and delegates from Germany, Colombia, Costa Rica, the United Kingdom, United Nations Population Fund (UNPFA) and Organizations of American States (OAS) among others.

The Faculty of Social Sciences partnered, and was featured on the TVJ show the Psychology of Bun.

Dr Herbert Gayle was interviewed by the show’s host Jackie Jackson around the topic of cheating, “jacket” and sustainability. This initative placed our research directly in the home of mass Jamaica highlighting the applicability and relevance of our work.

A native of the unassuming community of Belvedere, St. Andrew, Tamarnie Tavares grew up in a nuclear family where she is the second of three (3) children and takes pride in being the middle child. Her journey thus far has been challenging, nevertheless, she continues to be eternally grateful for the love and support she has gotten over the years.

FSS Valedictorian Mr David Salmon

Guided by his grandfather’s maxim, “The word 'can’t' does not exist, remove it from your vocabulary,” David has sought to take on new frontiers with confidence and determination. When he first stepped through the gates of The UWI, Mona, David was a student of the Faculty of Law who just graduated from his alma mater, the Wolmer’s Boys’ School. Little did he know at the time, that law was not to be his final destination. Less than two weeks after starting, he decided to transfer to the Faculty of Social Sciences to pursue a BSc in Public Policy and Management.
