The Faculty of Social Sciences congratulates Professor Densil Williams on his appointment as Principal of the Mona campus, beginning August 1, 2023. Professor Williams is one of our own, being a proud graduate of the Faculty and former Executive Director of the Mona School of Business and Management (MSBM). We wish him every success in his tenure as Principal.

The Faculty of Social Sciences commends The UWI Model United Nations (UWIMUN) team which recently won five (5) awards at the recently held Harvard Model UN Competition in Washington from February 14th to 21st , 2023.

Join us in congratulating Shullette Cox a FSS Alumna who has been appointed as the new President of JAMPRO. During her time at the university she was an International Relations and Economics double major. This a testament for where she has landed herself today. In January the Board of Directors at JAMPRO appointed Ms.Cox as the acting President from her long term position of Vice President. Here she led a team which recently did the highly successful Ministerial Mission to Guyana. Since Ms.Cox did such impeccable work in this position Chairman, Mrs.
The Faculty of Social Sciences wishes to congratulate the FSS Researchers who have been selected to attend the FSS Research Writers’ Retreat Conference 2023! The conference will be held from January 5 -8, 2023 at the Cardiff Hotel and Spa in Runaway Bay, St. Ann, Jamaica.
To spread the Christmas cheers, and in executing the C in our REACH mandate (Committed to being creative, caring, accountable, motivated and professional individuals), Mrs Shara Williams-Lue (Research and Planning Officer) and Ms Lejahmai Palmer (Secretary) organized a Food Drive for the staff and children of Sophie’s Place.
Coming out of our Partnerships for Development presentation, we are happy to announce that on December 16, 2022 the Embassy of the Argentine Republic kindly donated to the faculty and the UWI Mona books on the Malvinas. Specifically, we received, The International Community and the Malvinas Question; The Malvinas, the South Georgias and the South Sandwich Islands, the conflict with Britain and A 50 anos de la Resolucion 2065 (xx) de las Naciones Unidas.
The Faculty of Social Science hosted on November 24, 2022 an introductory presentation of the Faculty to the diplomatic community in Jamaica with the intention of garnering partnerships that will benefit staff and students of the faculty.
The event was spearheaded by Associate Dean Dr Lisa Vasciannie and saw representatives and delegates from Germany, Colombia, Costa Rica, the United Kingdom, United Nations Population Fund (UNPFA) and Organizations of American States (OAS) among others.
