Professor Eris D. Schoburgh Elected Vice President of the International Research Society for Public Management
Professor Eris D. Schoburgh has been elected unopposed to the position of Vice President of the International Research Society for Public Management (IRSPM) representing the Caribbean and Latin American Region at the latest round of elections that concluded in February 2022.
Globally, March is celebrated as Women History Month. In this month, we recognize women who are shaping history and making moves. This Women History Month, The Faculty of Social Sciences would like to celebrate and recognize two of our absolute best, whom the University of the West Indies has recently promoted as professors in their respective fields, Prof. Lila Rao Graham, and Prof. Suzette Haughton.
Professor Andrew Spencer began his academic career at the Department of Management Studies, now the Mona School of Business and Management at The UWI Mona Campus in 2008, where he now serves as the School’s Deputy Executive Director.
He holds a BSc degree in Tourism Management and a MSc degree in Tourism and Hospitality Management from The UWI Mona Campus and a PhD degree in Tourism Strategy from Bournemouth University, in the United Kingdom.
In this article, the author draws on his experience and expertise as a person with disabilities for over 30 years, an advocate for persons with disabilities for 30 years, a researcher, a Parliamentarian with disabilities and one who played a leading role in the negotiations on the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD), to anchor the discussion in this paper.
The COVID-19 pandemic has caused devastating consequences for individuals and countries across the world. It has impacted in a significant way, more than others, persons with disabilities. The crisis has exacerbated old problems that have served to restrict and isolate persons with disabilities from mainstream society. This has been the experience for the majority of persons with disabilities in the Caribbean.
The Faculty of Social Sciences wishes to recognize Dr Heather Ricketts, Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences, Mona Campus, for having been awarded the Vice-Chancellor’s Awards for Excellence in the category of Outstanding Service to the University Community for the academic year 2020/2021.

Professors Henry-Lee and Waller form part of a team of coordinators that has been tasked with helping to ensure the effective synchronisation of operational activities and new initiatives across The UWI system, as the University further advances its Triple A Strategic Plan. The coordinators will complement the current management structure, serving as data gatherers and knowledge providers to the Executive Management Team (EMT) and facilitating a strengthened information network of Principals and PVCs.
