Global Human Development Report (HDR) team looks to Jamaica for climate crisis insights following hurricane Melissa

Insights from Jamaica’s catastrophic experience with Hurricane Melissa will help inform the 2026 edition of the global Human Development Report (HDR), following a landmark consultation convened by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in partnership with the University of the West Indies (UWI).

With the 2025 landfall of the category five Hurricane, UNDPs global HDR team is looking to Small Island Developing States (SIDS) like Jamaica for insights on how the planetary crisis is reshaping social vulnerability and human development.

Event Highlight: We Rebuild, We Reclaim: The UWI Mona's Faculty of Social Sciences Hosts the British Council and the British High Commission for a Memorable Film Screening Event

The University of the West Indies, Mona is known for its rich academic history and cultural diversity. On the 19th of October, 2023, the British High Commission in Kingston and the Faculty of Social Sciences hosted “We Rebuild We Reclaim” a captivating film touring programme curated by We Are Parable with the British Council.
