Lidocaine-prilocaine Cream (EMLA [®]) Combined with Rapid Induction Creates Excellent Anaesthesia for Ovarian Cystectomy: a Prospective, Randomized, Controlled, Double Blind Study

Issue:
DOI:
10.7727/wimj.2016.255
Pages:
637-42
Synopsis:
This study investigated a painless and effective form of anaesthesia for ovarian cystectomy and found that the application of lidocaine-prilocaine cream combined with rapid induced anaesthesia can effectively reduce pain, relieve the heamodynamic fluctuations caused by extubation stress reaction during ovarian cystectomy.

ABSTRACT

Objective: To develop a highly painless and effective form of anaesthesia for ovarian cystectomy.

Effect of Yi Fu Kang Oral Liquid on Gastrointestinal Side Effects Caused by Chemotherapy

DOI:
10.7727/wimj.2015.076
Synopsis:
Yi Fu Kang oral liquid can enhance the function of the gastrointestinal tract of animals by reducing the number of emetic responses, protecting the gastric mucosa and propelling movement of small intestine contents.

ABSTRACT

Objective: We aimed to investigate whether Yi Fu Kang oral liquid (YFK) could reduce the gastrointestinal side effects caused by chemotherapy.

Effect of Repeated Recruitment Manoeuvres on Patients with Severe Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome

Issue:
DOI:
10.7727/wimj.2014.082
Pages:
362–6
Synopsis:
Recruitment manoeuvres (RMs) were conducted with continuous positive airway pressure on 41 ventilated patients with severe acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). The results showed that repeated RMs during lung-protected ventilation can improve pulmonary compliance and oxygenation and significantly decrease extravascular lung water in ARDS patients. Lung injury was not worsened by repeated RMs in patients with severe ARDS.

Extracellular Superoxide Dismutase, a Potential Extracellular Biomarker Candidate for Prolactinoma

Issue:
DOI:
Doi:10.7727/wimj.2012.213
Pages:
665–9
Synopsis:
Extracellular superoxide dismutase (EC-SOD) is an extracellular protein and serum EC-SOD could be a good candidate for the diagnosis of prolactinoma. There is a positive relationship between prolactinoma severity and EC-SOD.

ABSTRACT

Aim: To investigate whether the extracellular superoxide dismutase (EC-SOD) and manganese superoxide dismutase (Mn-SOD) level changes during prolactinoma (PRL) development.

Extracellular Superoxide Dismutase, a Potential Extracellular Biomarker Candidate for Prolactinoma

DOI:
Doi:10.7727/wimj.2012.213

Aim: To investigate whether the extracellular superoxide dismutase (EC-SOD) and manganese superoxide dismutase (Mn-SOD) level changes during prolactinoma (PRL) development.

Methods: Surgical tissues from 37 female patients with PRL were tested for Mn-SOD and serum sample from such PRL patients were tested for EC-SOD level changes with Western Blot. The Mn-SOD level from blood cells was also investigated to show whether the Mn-SOD variation can locate tumorigenesis tissues.
