Medical researcher whose work is centered around innovative approaches to bridge the gaps between poor nutrition, child development and scholastic achievement. So far, she has made some significant breakthroughs.One of the success strategies used by Professor Walker is to teach mothers to play with children as part of their development.

 

 

Through her research, Professor Walker has demonstrated that a home visiting stimulation programme has sustained benefits for undernourished children’s cognitive ability, education and emotional well being through to age 18 years. Professor Walker has been a consultant to the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) as well as the Government of Zimbabwe and led the evaluation of their child supplementary feeding programme. She also worked as a consultant to the World Health Organization.
