Orientation at the University of the West Indies Mona Library takes place throughout the year, as we are committed to help our new and returning students to use the Library efficiently. However a special effort is made in conjunction with the Office of Student Services during Orientation Week to assist first year students to find their way around the Main Library and its branches.
Tours are planned throughout the library system, where students are taken to the various sections of the Library and are given information about the facilities and services we offer. We also provide tours on request.
On these tours students are also encouraged to attend one of the Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC) sessions to learn how to locate print and electronic resources and a session on searching UWI Libraries Information Connexion (UWILINC) to learn how to locate journal articles from our databases and other sources.
These sessions are advertised the first two weeks after Orientation Week by the Mona Information Literacy Unit (MILU) located at the Main Library. Students are also encouraged to make use of our Virtual Reference Service (ASKMONA) to get their reference questions answered.
