The Nyle Stewart Memorial Scholarship medsci

The award is available to full-time Jamaican students who are:

  •  registered in the Faculty of Medical Sciences pursuing a B.Sc. in Physical Therapy;
  • entering year one of the programme.
Tuition One (1) Three (3) Years

Students must maintain a 3.0 Grade Point Average (G.P.A) in order to continue on the award each year.

 The award will be based on:

  •    Achievement of grades I- III in Units I and 2 in any two of the following CAPE subjects: Mathematics, Physics, Biology, Chemistry
  •    Financial need
  •   Preference will be given to students from St. George’s College 

Selection will be done by a panel comprising the Donor and UWI.

The Patsy Latchman Atterbury Scholarship socsci

The award is available to full time students who are: 

  • under 30 years of age;
  • registered to pursue a BSc Degree in Entrepreneurship or Business Management in the Faculty of Social Sciences at The UWI, Mona;
J$300,000.00 One (1) per annum One (1) year October 23, 2020

The award will be based on: 

  • high academic performance based on CAPE Results or maintain at least a B average or a GPA of 3.0 or higher at The UWI;
  • demonstrable financial need;
  • demonstrable community involvement and leadership qualities.

Short-listed candidates will be interviewed by a panel including personnel from UWI, the Donor and any other representative, as selected by the Donor.

Application shall be accompanied with the following documents:

  1. UWI acceptance letter for new students;
  2. UWI transcript (in the case of 2nd or 3rd year applicants);
  3. one page essay on the applicant's educational goals;
  4. two character reference letters.
The Racquel Joseph Scholarship

The award will be avaiable to students who: 

  • are Jamaican nationals
  • a graduate of the Sir Clifford Campbell Primary School in Savanna- La- Mar, Westmoreland
  • are full-time undergraduate student in any programme at the Unviersity of the West Indies, Mona 

 

 

CAD$3,000.00 1 1 year

Applicants will be required to submit an original eassy of no more than one thousand (1000) words. The eassy shall be the applicant's own work and no part thereof shall be generated using artificial intellegnece or copies from another source, except where properly cited.  The eassy shall be on one of the following:

  • Why is it important to give back to communities in Jamaica; or 
  • The role a univerosty education plays in Jamaica's socio-economic development

 

The award will be base on: 

  • Academic performance ( at least a GPS of 3.0) 
  • involvement in community or co-curricular activities or services 
  • demonstrated financial need 

 

The Office of Student Financing will shortlist applicants and the donor will make the final selection.

The SOE Education Grant

The award is available to students who are:

  • First year undergraduate students registered in the Faculty of Humanities and Education pursuing a Bachelor of Education degree. Preference will be given to students who selected the BEd programme as their first choice.
  • Registered as full-time or part-time
J$40,000.00 each Fifteen (15) per year One (1) year

Selection will be made by a committee which includes members from the University and donor representative.

The Spanish-Jamaican Foundation (SJF) Bursary for Modern Languages humed

The award is available to students who are: 

  • Jamaican nationals;
  • registered in the Faculty of Humanities and Education pursuing a BA in Spanish
  • Entering any level
$50,000 Five (5) One Year

The award will be based on: 

  • High academic performance
  • Verifiable financial need
  • Participation in co-curricular activities

NB: Preference will be given to students from St. Ann, St. James, Trelawny or Hanover.

Short-listed candidates will be interviewed by a panel consisting of representatives from The Spanish-Jamaican Foundation, the UWI Development and Endowment Fund and/or the Modern Languages Department  
 

The UWI Mona Guild Accessibility Grant agriculture, engineering, fst, Faculty of Sports, humed, law, medsci, socsci

The award is limited to Undergraduate students who are disabled and registered in any Faculty pursuing any programme of study at UWI Mona.

J $100,000.00 One (1) One (1) year

The award will be based on:

  • verifiable financial need.

 

Short-listed candidate’s applications will be reviewed a panel consisting of representatives from the UWI Mona Guild of Students.

The recipient of this award will:

  • be available for a photo opportunity and provide written testimony on the usefulness of the assistance granted;
  • be available to participate in any official ceremony related to the formal presentation of the scholarship award;
  • be available for public acknowledgment of my contribution by social media, website, publications, other means of communication and public recognition events.
  • The Grant can be used by the student to cover tuition, housing or transportation whichever requires the greatest level of support by the student.

The UWI Regional Endowment Fund Scholarships and Bursaries socsci

The UWI Endowment Fund Scholarships and Bursaries is one of the ways that the University of the West Indies seeks to attract all-round high achievers among the region’s high school students, community and state college graduates and current UWI students.  The UWI Regional Endowment Fund Scholarships and Bursaries are available for study pursing an undergraduate programme at any of the three resident campuses: Cave Hill, Mona or Saint Augustine.

•    Are a citizen of one of the UWI Contributing Countries (proof of citizenship will be required):

•    Are a first time applicant to an undergraduate degree programme offered at Cave Hill, Mona or St. Augustine campuses OR a current UWI undergraduate student at the Cave Hill, Mona or St. Augustine campuses with a minimum cumulative Grade Point Average of 3.0.   
•    Have financial need
•    Are Involved in co-curricular activities
•    Are a person of good character and possesses strong leadership qualities

Note: Applicants must not be holders of an undergraduate degree from any university or registered graduate students at the UWI.

Supporting documents are as following:

•    Evidence of leadership positions at school, university and/or within the wider community; community involvement; and co-curricular activities. (More than one form may be completed.)
•    Two (2) letters of  Affidavit – one of which must come from an academic referee attesting to the applicant’s academic ability and potential, character and need; while the other should demonstrate leadership qualities. (Referees must have known the applicant for at least two years. All referees must affix the official stamp of their office/department/organization).
•    Proof of citizenship of one of the UWI Contributing Countries.

NOTE: It is the responsibility of the applicants to ensure that their supporting documents are submitted to the Office of the Board for Undergraduate Studies by the deadline stated above.

The V M Investments Limited Business, Maurice C. Robinson Business Management and Economics Scholarship fst, socsci

The award is available to Jamaica Nationals who are Full time students registered in the Faculty of Social Sciences or Faculty of Science and Technology entering final year or with 2 years remaining. Pursuing studies in the Business, Management, Data Analytics/Data Science and Economics or related fields.

J $500,000 One (1) Up to two (2) years

The following terms and conditions apply:

  • The recipient must continue to meet all the established criteria during the year. 
  • Participation in an internship programme with VMIL is an option in years that VMIL hosts its internship programme
  • Volunteer service requirements.

The award will be based on:

  • academic performance based on the results of the previous year University examinations (minimum GPA of 3.0);
  • verifiable financial need;
  • active participation in extracurricular activities; 
  • demonstrates leadership qualities, volunteerism and social involvement.

 

Short-listed candidates will be interviewed by a panel consisting of representatives from VM Investments Ltd and UWI Development and Endowment Fund.

The recipient of this award will:

  • be available for a photo opportunity and provide written testimony on the usefulness of the assistance granted;
  • be available to participate in any official ceremony related to the formal presentation of the scholarship award.

 

The Violet N. Edwards Scholarship fst, Faculty of Sports, humed, socsci

The award is available to students registered in the Undergraduate Degree programme and are:

  • Jamaican nationals;
  • any age;
  • registered in the Faculty of Humanities & Education, Faculty of Science & Technology, or Faculty of Social Sciences.

NB: Preference will be given to an adult returning student, who may have previously dropped out of a degree program due to hardship.

$400,000.00 annually Two (2) Three (3) years

The award will be based on:

  • verifiable financial need. 
  • high academic performance where students must maintain at least 3.0 GPA, although a lower GPA of 2.5 may be acceptable based upon extenuating circumstances.

 

  • Applicants are short-listed on the basis of performance in Advanced Level GCE/CAPE Examination or University Examination;
  • Candidates would be interviewed by a panel comprising personnel from theUniversity and the donors.
