The award is available to:

  • Individuals who are members of the University of The West Indies (Mona) & Community Co-Operative Credit Union for at least one year or the spouse or child of such a member; [The member's account held at the Credit Union MUST be active at the time of application.]

 

  • Students pursuing undergraduate degree courses at UWI Mona Campus, University of Technology, Teachers Colleges or any other recognized Tertiary institution locally or overseas;

 

  • Students in their second or third year of study but in the case of MB,BS Students, the first year of Stage 1 of the programme must be completed.
J$150,000 per annum (each) Two (2) One (1) year.

The award will be based on:

  • Academic performance based on the results of the previous academic year University examinations (at least a GPA of 3.3);
  • Verifiable financial need;
  • Involvement in co-curricular activities.

Shortlisted candidates will be interviewed by personnel from the Administration of the UWI and a representative from the Credit Union.

At the bottom section of the first page, please write the name of the branch, the name of the account holder, and the savings account number relating to the acount being held at UWI (Mona) & Community Co-op. Credit Union.
The member's account held at the Credit Union MUST be active at the time of application.

UWI(MONA) & COMMUNITY CO-OP/EZRA LEWIS MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP engineering, fst, humed, law, medsci, socsci

The award is available to:

UWIDEF Bursary for the Performing Arts fst, humed, law, medsci, socsci

The award is available to any Caribbean National who is:

  • registered in any undergraduate degree programme
  • entering level two (2) or three (3)
$100,000 Two (2) One (1) year

The recipients are required to complete 40 hours of voluntary service with the UWI Development Fund.
 

The award will be based on :

  • High academic performance (at least a GPA of 3.0);
  • Demonstrable financial need;
  • Membership in a performing arts group on campus for at least one (1) year

Shortlisted candidates will be interviewed by a panel consisting of representatives from Phillip Sherlock Centre for the Creative Arts, Office of Students Services and Development, and UWI Endowment Fund. 

Priority will be given to students who are involved in performing arts at UWI Mona or Western Jamaica Campus, consideration will be given to students involved in performing arts groups outside of UWI. 
Proof of active membership is required. 

UWIDEF Undergraduate Scholarships fst, humed, law, socsci

The award is available to Jamaica Nationals or students of Jamaican parentage who are:

 

    • Full time student registered in all Faculties EXCEPT Medical Sciences;
    • Entering LEVEL (year) 2 or 3 of study;
J$250,000 (2 awards), J$125,000 (2 awards) Four (4) One (1) year

The recipients are required to complete 100 hours or 50 hours of voluntary services with the UWI Development and Endowmnet Fund (UWIDEF) or any organization within the UWI community.

The award will be based on:

 

    • high academic performance in the last academic year's University examinations (at least a GPA of 3.3);
    • Verifiable financial need.

Short-listed candidates will be interviewed by a committee comprising personnel from the University and the Donor Committee

UWIDEF- Faculty of Medical Sciences Bursary medsci

The award is available to Caribbean nationals who:

    • are registered in the Faculty of Medical Sciences and are pursuing the MBBS degree programme;
    • are entering Levels 4 or 5.
$50,000 One (1) One (1) year

The award is based on:

    • academic performance in the Univresity examinations of the previous year (at least a GPA of 3.0);
    • verifiable financial need.

The successful candidate will be selected by a committee comprising the Faculty Dean, Vice-Dean (pre-clinical) or their nominees and a representative from the UWI medical Association. Where deemed necessary, shorlisted candidates will be interviewed by the selection committee.

Applications should be made DIRECTLY to the Faculty of Medical Sciences Office along with a short essay not more than 300 words outlining why they believe they should receive the award.

Wes Hall Social Entrepreneurs Award

The award is available to full-time Jamaican students who:

  • are registered in any faculty at the University of the West Indies, Mona;
  • have completed at least level one (1) of their degree programme.
CAD $10,000 To be decided by donor

The award will be based on:

  • Good academic standing;
  • verifiable financial need;
  • demonstrable involvement in community/co-curricular activities;
  • satisfying all other requirements of The UWI pertaining to Students' behaviour and performance;
  • students from St. Thomas, Jamaica and very impoverished regions and priotized over others.

The scholarship will be advertised on the campus website and/or any other University approved media.

Short-listed candidates will be interviewed by a panel comprising personnel from the UWI and the donor.

Wigton Windfarm Limited Scholarship

The award is available to Jamaican Nationals under 25 years of age registered in any Faculty of Engineering. Recipients must be in Second or Third Year of study and pursuing BSc. in any area of Engineering “EXCLUDING” Biomedical Engineering at the UWI, Mona campus. 

JA$1,000,000.00 One (1) Two (2) years

The following terms and conditions apply:

  • The recipient must continue to meet all the established criteria to qualify for subsequent award. [Only applies for awards that have tenure of more than 1 year.]
  • Participation in facility tours, meetings and other forms of engagement with sponsor.
  • Volunteer service requirements.
  • Other***Forfeiture of award in the event the terms and conditions of the award of the scholarship are breached or student is the subject of disciplinary action by UWI, Mona.***

 

The award will be based on:

  • Academic performance based on the results of the previous year University examinations (minimum GPA of 3.0);
  • Verifiable financial need;
  • Active participation in extracurricular activities;
  • Demonstrates leadership qualities, volunteerism and social involvement.

 

Short-listed candidates will be interviewed by a panel consisting of representatives from UWI Development and Endowment Fund.

The recipient of this award will:

  • Be available for a photo opportunity and provide written testimony on the usefulness of the assistance granted.
  • Be available to participate in any official ceremony related to the formal presentation of the scholarship award.
WIGUT BURSARIES (OFFERED BY THE WEST INDIES GROUP OF UNIVERSITY TEACHERS, JAMAICA (WIGUT)) engineering, fst, humed, law, medsci, socsci

The award is available to Jamaican Nationals who are:

 

    • pursuing studies on the Mona Campus leading to a first degree in any faculty;
    • entering the Level II or Level III of the degree programme.
J $40,000.00 To be decided by Donor Two (2) years (students in the MB,BS degree programme may be granted extended tenure)

The award will be based on:

 

    • high academic achievement in the annual University Examinations (at least a GPA of 3.3);
    • demonstrable financial need.

Short-listed candidates will be selected by a panel comprising personnel from the University and the WIGUT (Jamaica).

YOUNG JAMAICAN SCHOLAR BOOK GRANT fst, socsci

The award is available to students who are:

 

    • Jamaican nationals;
    • Full time students registered in either the Faculty of Humanities & Education, Science and Technology or Social Sciences;
    • Entering levels two (2) or three (3) at the Mona Campus.
J$100,000.00 One (1) One (1) year

The award will be based on:

 

    • academic achievement (at least a GPA of 3.0)
    • demonstrable financial need;
    • participation in co-curricular activities (e.g. sports/ music/ clubs or societies).

The successful candidate(s) will be selected by a Committee comprising personnel from the Donor and U.W.I

“The PK Initiative” Bursary fst, socsci

The award is available to MALES registered in the Faculty of Social Sciences or Science and Technology Undergraduate Degree programme who are:  

  • Full Time or Part Time;
  • in the second year of their degree programme;
  • Jamaican nationals;
  • 17-25 years old;
  • commuting from Portmore, St. Catherine.

 

$100,000.00 One (1) One (1) year

The award will be based on: 

  • verifiable financial need

Candidates will be interviewed by a panel comprising of personnel from the University and the donors.
