THE JAMAICA COLLEGE-MONA HEIGHTS SCHOLARSHIP fst, humed, law, medsci, socsci

The award is available to  full time registered students who are: 

  • Be under 30 years of age
  • Be a Graduate of Jamaica College who lived in Mona Heights (at any time
J $300,000.00 One (1) One (1) year

The successful candidate shall not be the holder or recipient of any other scholarship covering tuition costs.

The award will be based on: 

  • Outstanding academic record 
  • Demonstrable financial need
  • Demonstrable community involvement and leadership qualities

Selection of the student will be made by a Committee of evaluators from the UWI and should include the Donor, in accordance with the criteria outlined in the Schedule which shall be read as one with the Agreement.

Application shall be accompanied with the following documents:

  • UWI application and acceptance letters;
  • CAPE & CXC scores;
  • high school transcript or UWI transcript (in the case of 2nd or 3rd year applicants)
  • one page essay on the applicant's educational goals;
  • two character references;
  • certified copy of birth certificate or registration certificate.

 

The Jordanne A. Hanlan Memorial Award

The award is available to: 

  • Jamaican nationals under 30 years old;
  • Students who are accepted to pursue a degree programme in CARIMAC at The UWI, Mona;
  • The ideal candidate must have published at least one form of content to a personal blog, media source or on a website such as medium.com, or show clear references of being a content creator on social profiles, such as Meta, YouTube etc.
J $200,000.00 One (1) per annum One (1) year

The award will be based on: 

  • Successful matriculation to the UWI and demonstration of a good academic record maintaining at least a B average or a GPA of 3.6 (A average);
  • Demonstrable leadership qualities;
  • Sustained good citizenship/ meet all other requirements of the University pertinent to student behaviour, discipline and performance.

Shortlisted candidates will be interviewed by a panel comprising UWI personnel and the Donor organization. 

All applications should be accompanied by the following documents:

  1. A one page essay on the Applicant's goals;
  2. Two(2) character references.
The Kala and Joseph Thakur Memorial Scholarship Institute of Gender and Development Studies, fst, humed, socsci

The award is available to Caribbean Nationals who are:

  •  registered, full time undergraduate in the Faculty of Science & Technology (preference to students in the Department of Computing), Faculty of   Humanities and Education or Faculty of Social Sciences (all programmes except those offered by Mona School of Business and Management); Faculty of Engineering, Faculty of Sport and the Institute of Gender and Development Studies; entering second, third or final year of the degree programme.
USD $2,500.00 Two (2) One (1) year

The award will be based on:

 

    • verifiable financial need,
    • academic performance based on results of the previous academic year University examinations (at least a GPA of 3.6 for candidates from Science & Technology, Social Sciences and Humanities and Education)

The shortlisted candidates will be interviewed by a panel comprising University personnel and/or the Donor Organization. 

The Kathleen Taffe Scholarship medsci, socsci

The award is available to Jamaican national students pursuing a BSc in the Faculty of Medicine or Faculty of Social Sciences – in the areas of Management Studies at the University of the West Indies, Mona Campus.

USD 1000 One (1) 1 year

The award will be based on: 

  • academic performance based on the results of the previous year University examinations (minimum GPA of 3.0); 
  • verifiable financial need;
  • demonstrate leadership qualities, volunteerism and social involvement.

Short-listed candidates will be interviewed by a panel consisting of representatives from the Taffe family and the UWI Development and Endowment Fund.

The recipient of this award must be available:

  • for a photo opportunity and provide various written inputs including an academic resume and other items to support donor reporting and promotion of the award;
  • to participate in any official ceremony related to the formal presentation of the scholarship award.
The Kingston Freeport Terminal Limited Scholarship fst

The award is available to students who are:

  • Jamaican nationals;
  • full time student pursuing a B.Sc. Electrical Power Engineering;
  • entering the 2nd year of the degree;
  • between the ages of 18-25 years old;
  • from communities in the parishes of Kingston & St. Andrew, St. Thomas, St. Catherine.
USD $9,500.00 One (1) 2 Years

The following Terms & Condition apply:

  • The recipient must continue to pursue the course of study for which the scholarship was awarded;
  • continuation on the award is subject to annual review of academic performance
  • completion of an internship during the months June-August between their second and third year;
  • recipients will be required to work at Kingston Freeport Terminal Limited for a minimum period of two years immediately after graduation. The bonding document will be signed after selection for the award. 

The award will be based on: 

  • Verifiable financial need; 
  • high academic performance (GPA of at least 3.0);
  • participation in co-curricular or community activities;
  • evidence of leadership qualities.

Shortlisted candidates will be interviewed by the Donors and a representative from the University of the West Indies. 

Applications should be accompanied by the following documents: 

  • A brief description (300 words) outling how the course of study is integral to their career goals; 
  • a brief description (300 words) outling how working at Kingston Freeport Terminal would fit into your career goal;
  • two (2) character references. 
The Leighton McKnight Scholarship

The award is available to: 

  • applicants under 30 years of age;
  • final year students studying Accounting or Business Management.

 

J$350,000.00 One (1) per annum One (1) year

The award will be based on:

  • high academic performance based on GPA of 3.0 or higher from the prior year at UWI, Mona;
  • demonstrable financial need.
  • involvement in extra curricular activities 

Short-listed candidates will be interviewed by a panel including personnel from UWI, the Donor and any other representative, as selected by the Donor.

Application shall be accompanied with the following documents:

  • a one page essay on the applicant's educational goals;
  • two character reference letters.

The Limners and Bards (LAB) Bursary humed

The award is available to Jamaican Nationals who are:

  • registered in a full time programme on Mona Campus and are entering their first or second year of study in the Faculty of Humanities & Education;
  • pursuing the Journalism, Integrated Marketing Communication, Digital Media Production, Animation or Film Production degree programmes on a full time basis.
Up to $100,000.00 Three (3) One (1) year

The recipient of the award must be available to participate in LAB's internship programme.

The award will be based on:

  • High academic performance at the high school level or previous year's University examinations (at least a GPA of 3.00);
  • Verifiable financial need;
  • Significant participation in co-curricular activities.

 Shortlisted candidates will be interviewed by a panel comprising personnel from the University including  a CARIMAC representative and the donor organization.

 

The Long Actuarial Scholarship fst

The award is available to Jamaican nationals who have: 

  • registered in year two or three of the B.Sc. Actuarial Science degree at the Mona Campus
US $2,125 One (1) One (1) year

The award will be based on: 

  • outstanding academic record (at least a 3.5 GPA for current UWI students or excellent results in CAPE examinations for incoming students);
  • verifiable financial need;
  • demonstrable community/co-curricular involvement and  strong leadership qualities.

Shortlisted candidates will be interviewed by a panel comprising of UWI personnel and at least one representative from the Donor. 

The recipient of the award in the 2019/2020 academic year may reapply in subsequent years. 

The Lurline Victoria HoSang Excellence Award socsci
    • The award is limited to Jamaican Nationals.
    • It is open to students enrolled in the Faculty of Social Sciences, specifically those pursuing Social Work as a Major.
    • The student should be enrolled full time at the University of the West Indies
    • The award targets undergraduate students.
    • There are no specific age restrictions for eligibility.
    • There are no restrictions based on previous primary or secondary school attendance.
    • The award is not limited to students from a specific community or parish.
$100,000.00 JMD One (1) per annum One Year
    • Verifiable financial need will be a key criterion for selection.
    • Academic performance will be considered for the award.
    • Prior Involvement in co-curricular or community activities will be considered.
    • Demonstrated leadership qualities will also be part of the evaluation process.
    • The scholarship will be advertised on the University of the West Indies website.
    • Applicants will be short-listed by the University of the West Indies based on academic performance, financial need and other criteria listed above.
    • Shortlisted candidates will be interviewed by a panel comprising personnel from the University along with a donor representative.  
The Madge Greenfield Scholarship fst

The award is available to Jamaican national students pursuing a BSc in the Faculty of Science & Technology – in the areas of Zoology.

J$ 1,000,000.00 One (1) One (1) year

The award will be based on: 

  • academic performance based on the results of the previous year University examinations (minimum GPA of 3.5) or CAPE examinations. 
  • verifiable financial need.
  • demonstratable leadership qualities, volunteerism and social involvement.

Short-listed applications will be reviewed by a panel the donor.

The recipient of this award must be available:

  • for a photo opportunity and provide various written inputs including an academic resume and other items to support donor reporting and promotion of the award;
  • to participate in any official ceremony related to the formal presentation of the scholarship award.
