FSS Student Wins Top Prize in Public Speaking

FSS student Krystal Tomlinson copped the top prize in the Public Speaking Competition of the World Universities Debating Championship held recently in Botwana.

Research Day 2011 - FSS Schedule of Activities

Annual Award Ceremony

The Faculty of Social Sciences will hold its Annual Award Ceremony to recognise current students and recent graduates who have excelled in their programme of study. The ceremony will take place on Thursday, January 20 beginning at 5:30pm in the Social Sciences Lecture Theatre (SSLT). All members of staff are invited.

Professorial Inaugural lecture 2011

“Effect of Monetary Policy, Structural Changes and Hurricanes on Tourism and Economic Growth of Jamaica” is the title of the inaugural professorial lecture to be delivered by Edward E. Ghartey, Professor of Economics, UWI, Mona. The lecture is scheduled for Friday, January 21, 2011 at 3 pm at the Social Sciences Lecture Theatre (SSLT), UWI, Mona.

The study examines the causal relationships among economic growth, tourism expansion, the real exchange rates, structural changes and hurricanes effect in Jamaica over the period 1963 to 2008.

Semester 2 begins on January 23

The second semester for the 2010/11 academic year officially begins on Sunday, January 23 while teaching resumes Monday, January 24, 2011. The University of the West Indies, Mona Campus, wishes to advise that all tuition and hall fees (where applicable) for the second semester become due and payable at the start of the semester. Fees may be paid at any branch of Paymaster, National Commercial Bank or Bill Express island wide. Students may also use the UWI’s e-commerce facility to make payments.

Returning Students: Registration

The Faculty of Social Sciences wishes to advise that normal registration takes place from January 24 – January 28.  A late registration fine of J$1000 will be charged from January 31 to students who fail to complete the registration process (which includes payment of fees) prior to this date.  Students may register online for their courses by logging on to: http://sas.uwimona.edu.jm:9010.
