The 2013-2014 Undergraduate Student Handbook now available for collection.  You may pick up your copy from the foyer of SSLT from Monday August 26 - Friday August 30.  After this date, they will be distributed from the Faculty Office.

The University of the West Indies, Mona Campus has been granted institutional accreditation by the University Council of Jamaica (UCJ), for a period of seven (7) years, the maximum time possible. The accreditation took effect from February 1, 2012.  This is a significant development for the UWI, Mona, which is now the first institution in Jamaica to secure institutional accreditation from the UCJ, as a way of validating its quality standards. Institutional accreditation means that all the undergraduate and graduate programmes currently being offered by The UWI, Mona, are recognized.

The Faculty of Social Sciences wishes to congratulate all students for their inclusion on the Dean's List for Semester 2, 2012-2013.  The Dean's List recognises the achievement of undergraduates from semester to semester.  Students who have been included on the list will receive official notification via their UWI-issued email account.

At the Annual Research Day Awards Ceremony held January 27 in recognition of outstanding researchers, Pro Vice Chancellor and Principal Professor Gordon Shirley presented awards to Faculty of Social Sciences staff members in the following categories:

-  Best Research Publication

-  Outstanding Researcher/Outstanding Research Activity

-  Research Project Attracting the Most Research Funds, and

-  Research Project with the Greatest Business/ Economic/ Development Impact.

Congratulations to Ms. Marina Ramkissoon from the Department of Sociology, Psychology and Social Work for being awarded the 2010-2011 FSS Excellence in Teaching Award.  Ms. Ramkissoon was recognised for her commitment to excellence in teaching and her dedication to enhancing student learning at the FSS Annual Award Ceremony held on January 12, 2012 in the Assembly Hall, Mona.

Commendations for their teaching were also extended to Dr. Caryl James of the same Department but serving at the Western Jamaica Campus and to Dr. Damien King of the Department of Economics.
