Glycated Haemoglobin A1c Measurement in Stored Whole Blood Sample is Reliable for Clinical Use

Reliability of the Evaluation of Students’ Answers to Essay-type Questions

Marks awarded to 1864 answers to essay questions reflected an agreement of 46.3% between markers, increasing to 90.7% within a range of ± 5%. The test reliability was 0.78. This method of assessment must be supplemented by other methods.

Effect of a Government Funded Medication Programme on Paediatric Asthma Hospital Admissions in Antigua And Barbuda

Asthma admissions to Holberton Hospital were tabulated for the six years prior to and for the six years following institution of a government funded programme to provide asthma medication to children in Antigua and Barbuda at no out-of-pocket cost. There was a drop in annual admissions, multiple admissions and number of children with multiple admissions after the programme was instituted.

ABSTRACT

The present study summarizes the current knowledge of the heat and cold stress which might significantly affect military activities and might also occur among travellers who are not well adapted to weather variations during their journey. The selection of the best clothing is a very important factor in preserving thermal comfort. Our experiences with thermal manikin are also represented in this paper.

Historiographic Analysis of the Jamaican ‘Shakatani’ Scotoma from the Short Stories of Erna Brodber

The study uses historiography in the analysis of the contemporary fictional writings of a Jamaican novelist to identify aspects of psychopathology of Jamaican people. The analysis reveals profound personality disorder scotoma that currently paralyses many Jamaicans as a product of the enslavement of Africans in the New World, which has been labelled ‘Shakatani’ by current Caribbean medical scholarship.

The prevalence of personality disorder assessed by the Jamaica Personality Disorder Inventory (JPDI), the International Personality Disorder Examination Screening questionnaire (IPDE-S) and the consultant Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, fourth edition-text revision (DSM IV-TR) instruments in medical wards in Jamaica is significantly higher than the prevalence rate of studies in other countries. The prevalence rate identified by the IPDE-S was significantly higher that the local instruments used.
