Physician/Educator who has done pioneering work in the production of xanthan gum from a by-product of sugarcane for whichshe holds two research patents.She established the first fermentation facility of Basic Medical Sciences in 1997.Dr. Hamilton’s other achievements include the establishing of the UWI Microbiology Analytical Services, which is a commercial laboratory.
Professor Hamilton has been spearheading the process of international accreditation for this and all other Biochemistry laboratories. She has also contributed to non-university teaching through microbiology consultancies with the Ministry of Health and was seconded to the National Health laboratory as director of the Immunology Department.

The UWI, Mona ranks first in Jamaica among accredited tertiary-level programmes. In 2012, the University was again one of Jamaica’s Top 100 Employers.
