The Long Actuarial Scholarship fst

The award is available to Jamaican nationals who have: 

  • registered in year two or three of the B.Sc. Actuarial Science degree at the Mona Campus
US $2,125 One (1) One (1) year

The award will be based on: 

  • outstanding academic record (at least a 3.5 GPA for current UWI students or excellent results in CAPE examinations for incoming students);
  • verifiable financial need;
  • demonstrable community/co-curricular involvement and  strong leadership qualities.

Shortlisted candidates will be interviewed by a panel comprising of UWI personnel and at least one representative from the Donor. 

The recipient of the award in the 2019/2020 academic year may reapply in subsequent years. 

The Lurline Victoria HoSang Excellence Award socsci
    • The award is limited to Jamaican Nationals.
    • It is open to students enrolled in the Faculty of Social Sciences, specifically those pursuing Social Work as a Major.
    • The student should be enrolled full time at the University of the West Indies
    • The award targets undergraduate students.
    • There are no specific age restrictions for eligibility.
    • There are no restrictions based on previous primary or secondary school attendance.
    • The award is not limited to students from a specific community or parish.
$100,000.00 JMD One (1) per annum One Year
    • Verifiable financial need will be a key criterion for selection.
    • Academic performance will be considered for the award.
    • Prior Involvement in co-curricular or community activities will be considered.
    • Demonstrated leadership qualities will also be part of the evaluation process.
    • The scholarship will be advertised on the University of the West Indies website.
    • Applicants will be short-listed by the University of the West Indies based on academic performance, financial need and other criteria listed above.
    • Shortlisted candidates will be interviewed by a panel comprising personnel from the University along with a donor representative.  
The Madge Greenfield Scholarship fst

The award is available to Jamaican national students pursuing a BSc in the Faculty of Science & Technology – in the areas of Zoology.

J$ 1,000,000.00 One (1) One (1) year

The award will be based on: 

  • academic performance based on the results of the previous year University examinations (minimum GPA of 3.5) or CAPE examinations. 
  • verifiable financial need.
  • demonstratable leadership qualities, volunteerism and social involvement.

Short-listed applications will be reviewed by a panel the donor.

The recipient of this award must be available:

  • for a photo opportunity and provide various written inputs including an academic resume and other items to support donor reporting and promotion of the award;
  • to participate in any official ceremony related to the formal presentation of the scholarship award.
The Major General Rudolph Green Scholarship socsci

The award is available to full time students who are: 

  • under 30 years of age;
  • Caribbean nationals;
  • registered to pursue a BSc Degree in Public Administration or Finance in the Faculty of Social Sciences at The UWI, Mona;
Tuition Cost One (1) per annum One (1) year October 16, 2020

The award will be based on: 

  • high academic performance based on CAPE Results or maintain at least a B average or a a GPA of 3.0 or higher at The UWI;
  • demonstrable financial need;
  • demonstrable community involvement and leadership qualities.

Short-listed candidates will be interviewed by a panel including personnel from UWI, the Donor and any other representative, as selected by the Donor.

Application shall be accompanied with the following documents:

  1. UWI acceptance letter for new students;
  2. UWI transcript (in the case of 2nd or 3rd year applicants);
  3. one page essay on the applicant's educational goals;
  4. two character reference letters.
The Marcia Forbes Scholarship humed

The award is available to:

  • student registered in CARIMAC at The UWI, Mona;
  • students registered in the second (2nd) or third (3rd) year of the degree programme.

 

J $200,000.00 One (1) One (1) year

The award will be based on: 

  • high academic performance with a GPA of 3.0 or higher;
  • verifiable financial need;
  • involvement in co-curricular/community activities;
  • demonstrable leadership qualities etc.

Shortlisted candidates will be interviewed by a panel comprising UWI personnel and the Donor organization. 

The Mark and Kathleen Newman Scholarship

The award is available to:

  • first year students who are accepted to pursue a degree programme in the Faculty of Science and Technology (strong preference for candidate who intends to add a double major or minor in the  Humanities).
US$1500 each per annum Two (2) Three (3) Years

Continuation on the award each successive year will be based on the awardee maintaining a minimum GPA of 3.0 each academic year

The award will be based on: 

  • successful matriculation to the UWI and demonstration of a strong academic record 
  • demonstrable leadership qualities;
  • demonstrable financial need;
  • demonstrable involvement in co-curricular activities and community involvement.

Shortlisted candidates will be interviewed by a panel comprising UWI personnel and a member of the Newman family.

The Marubeni Scholarship engineering

The award is available to Full time student registered in any Faculty of Engineering.

Recipients must be in 2nd Year (Entering Final Year) of study and pursuing BSc. in Electrical Power Engineering at the UWI, Mona campus. 

USD 5000.00 Five (5) One (1) year

The following terms and conditions apply:

  • Participation in facility tours, meetings and other forms of engagement with sponsors.
  • Student may be in receipt of a student loan but still in financial need. 

The award will be based on:

  • Academic performance based on the results of the previous year University examinations (minimum GPA of 3.0).
  • Verifiable financial need;
  • Demonstrates leadership qualities, volunteerism and social involvement.

 

Short-listed candidates will be interviewed by a panel consisting of representatives from the donor company and UWI Development and Endowment Fund.

The recipient of this award will:

  • Be available for a photo opportunity and provide written testimony on the usefulness of the assistance granted.
  • Be available to participate in any official ceremony related to the formal presentation of the scholarship award.
The Meggo-Whyte Grant - For Books

The award is available to registered students who are:

  • Jamaican nationals;
  • pursuing studies on the Mona Campus leading to a first degree in any faculty;

 

J $50,000.00 each semester Two (2) One (1) year

The award will be based on:

  • financial need;

Candidates will be selected by the Office of Student Financing and the Donor.

The Michael Anthony Pickersgill Scholarship socsci

The award is available to: 

  • Clarendon College alumni;
  • students who have successfully matriculated to the UWI or completed Year 1 or 2 of the BSc Degree in Economics in the Faculty of Social Sciences at The UWI, Mona;
J$300,000.00 One (1) per annum One (1) year October 23, 2020

The award will be based on:

  • high academic performance based on CAPE Results or maintain at least a B average or a GPA of 3.0 or higher at The UWI;
  • demonstrable financial need;
  • demonstrable community involvement and leadership qualities.

Short-listed candidates will be interviewed by a panel including personnel from UWI, the Donor and any other representative, as selected by the Donor.

Application shall be accompanied with the following documents:

  • UWI transcript (in the case of 2nd or 3rd year applicants);

The Michael Haughton Opportunity Scholarship

The award is available to full time students registered in the Undergraduate Degree programme who have completed at least one(1) level of the programme and are:

  • registered in the Faculty of Medical Sciences, Science and Technology, Social Sciences or Law at The University of the West Indies, Mona;
  • Jamaican national;
  • from the Parish of Trelawny ;
  • first in family to attend university.

 

CAD $3000 One (1) One (1) year

The award will be based on:

  • good academic standing;
  • verifiable financial need;
  • demonstrable involvement in community and co-curricular activities;

Satisfying all other requirements of The UWI pertaining to Students’ behaviour and performance. 

 

Short-listed candidates will be interviewed by a panel comprising personnel from the UWI and the donor. 

The applicant must write an essay on one or all of the following:

  1. The Importance of giving back and paying it forward to fellow Jamaicans;
  2. The importance of living sustainably in Jamaica inclusive of the impacts of over tourism and Global Warming on the island;
  3. The role higher education plays on Jamaican society’s development.
