The award is available to undergraduate students who are between the ages 17-25, registered in the Faculty of Medical Sciences and pursuing a programme of study in MBBS in 1st - 5th year at the UWI, Mona campus.

JMD1,040,000.00 One (1) per year One (1) year

The following terms and conditions apply:

·     

Student may be in receipt of a student loan but still in financial need.

·     

The student is required to give two years of service in Jamaica Post Graduation.

Proof of the above-mentioned condition must be submitted to UWIDEF.

The award will be based on:

Academic performance based on the results of the previous year University examinations (minimum GPA of 3.0);

                                                     Verifiable financial need;

Short-listed candidates will be interviewed by a panel consisting of representatives from the University of the West Indies and the UWI Development and Endowment Fund.

            The recipient of this award will:

·     

Be available for a photo opportunity and provide written testimony on the usefulness of the assistance granted.

·     

Be available to participate in any official ceremony related to the formal presentation of the scholarship award.

DR. RONNIE MELBOURNE MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP medsci

The award is available to:

  • Jamaican or Cayman nationals;
  • Entering Level 3 in the Faculty of Medical Sciences.
J$120,000.00 One (1) Three (3)

Successful candidates will be required to work in Jamaica for a minimum period of three (3) years immediatedly after the completion of the course of study.

The award will be based on:

  • high academic achievement (performance in the MBBS Level 2 examinations);
  • verifiable financial need.

Shortlisted candidates will be interviewed by a committee comprisiong of The U.W.I and Donor personnel.

Dr. the Hon. R. Danny Williams Medical Scholarship

The award is avaialble to students who: 

    • Jamaican national
    • Second year student registered in the full fee paying MBBS programme
    • Age: 18-35
25% Partial Tuition Scholarship One (1) Four (4) Years

Please note: 

After completion of the approved course of study, the Scholarship recipient must apply for employment at the University Hospital of the West Indies. Successful applicants must be employed to the University Hospital of the West Indies for a period of two (2) years after graduating from the University of the West Indies School of Medicine.

The award will be based on:

    • an academic GPA of 3.2 or higher
Dr. Tulsi Dyal Singh Scholarship in Sport

The award is available to registered full-time undergraduate students who are:

  • registered in the Faculty of Sport;
  • in the second or final year of the degree programme.
US$ 3,000.00 One (1) per year 1 year

The award will be based on:

  • high academic performance based on the results of the previous year University examinations;
  • verifiable financial need;
  • involvement in co-curricular/community activities;
  • leadership qualities etc.

Shortlisted candidates shall be interviewed by a panel comprising personnel from the University wiith a representative from the Faculty of Sport.

DR. WYCLIFFE AND MRS. FELICIA LOFTERS SCHOLARSHIP FOR EDUCATION medsci

The award is available to rural Jamaican nationals who are: 

 

    • registered full-time student in the Faculty of Medical Sciences
    • majoring in Medicine & Surgery
    • entering year 1, 2 or 3 
CAN$1,000 (J$ equivalent) One (1) One (1) year

The recipient is required to complete 40 hours or 100 hours of voluntary services with the UWI Development and Endowment Fund (UWIDEF). 

The award will be based on: 

    • High academic performance (at least a GPA of 2.7)
    • Verifiable financial need
    • Participation in co-curricular activities
    • Leadership qualities, volunteerism and social involvement

 

Short-listed candidates will be interviewed by a panel consisting of representatives from the University of the West Indies and the UWI Development and Endowment Fund.

Dr. Wycliffe and Mrs. Felicia Lofters Scholarship for Education humed

The award is available  to rural Jamaican nationas who arel: 

  • Registered full-time student in the Faculty of Humanities and Education
  • Majoring in Science or Math Education
  • Entering year 2 or 3 
CAN$1,000 (J$ equivalent) One (1) One (1) year

The recipient is required to complete 40 hours or 100 hours of voluntary services with the UWI Development and Endowmnet Fund (UWIDEF). 

The award will be based on: 

  • High academic performance (at least a GPA of 2.7)
  • Verifiable financial need
  • Participation in co-curicular activities
  • Leadership qualities, volunteerism and social involvement

Shortlisted candidates shall be interviewed by a panel comprising personnel from the University and UWIDEF

DunnCox Scholarship law

The award is available to Jamaican Nationals who: 

    • have successfully completed the first year of the LLB programme
    • are not more than 35 years of age on September 1
J $140,000.00 One (1) Two (2) years

The award will be based on: 

    • high academic achievement (minimum GPA of 3.0) in the level 1 University Examinations with at least two A's in Faculty of Law courses; 
    • good character and leadership qualities, volunteerism and social involvement of the applicant; 
    • active participation in extracurricular activities

Shortlisted candidates will be interviewed by a panel comprising representatives from UWIDEF and a representative of DunnCox. 

EDGAR WHITELY SCHOLARSHIP fst

Applicants should satisfy all of the following criteria: 

 

    • be nationals of CARICOM Countries;
    • must be entering at least the second year of study; 
    • pursuing studies in Physics
To be decide by Donor One (1) One (1) year

The award will be based on:

 

    • good academic performance (a minimum GPA of 3.0);
    • verifiable financial need;
    • participation and leadership in co-curricular activities.

Short-listed candidates will be interviewed by a panel comprising representatives from the Faculty of Science & Technology. 

Elizabeth Dewdney Memorial Scholarship humed

 The award is available to students who are:

  • Jamaican;
  • Undergraduate students registered in the Faculty of Humanities and Education and pursuing full time a Bachelor of Education degree program in the School of Education at Mona.

 

CAD $3500 per year One (1) per year Three (3) years

The award will be based on: 

  • high academic performance with at least a Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.0 in the previous academic year;
  • verifiable financial need;
  • demonstrable involvement in community activities.

 

Selection will be made by a UWI committee which includes members from the Office of Student Financing and The School of Education.
