The award is available to students who are:

  •  Jamaican nationals;
  • Undergraduate students registered in any Faculty of UWI;
  • members of the Jamaica Police Co-operative Credit Union Limited for a period of not less than 2 years or the child of a qualified member of the JPCCU.
J$165,000.00 One (1) One (1) year

The recipient will be required to work in Jamaica for a minimum of two (2) years.

The award will be based on:

  • High academic performance (at least a GPA of 3.0);
  • Strong leadership qualities;
  • Verifiable financial need.
  • Performance at Interview

Short-listed candidates applicants will be interviewed by a panel comprising personnel from the Donors and UWI.

JAMAICA STOCK EXCHANGE SCHOLARSHIP socsci

The award is available to Jamaican nationals who are:

  • registered Undergraduate students entering Level 2;
  • registered in the Faculty of Social Sciences- majoring in Management Studies (Banking & Finance).
J$330,000.00 One (1) Two (2) years

The award will be based on:

 

    • high academic performance (GPA of 3.0 and above);
    • demonstrable financial need.

Shortlisted candidates will be interviewed by a committee comprising UWI & Donor personnel.

Jamaican American Friendship Association (JAFA) fst, humed, socsci

The award is available to Jamaican Nationals or students of Jamaican parentage who are: 

  • registered at UWI and will be entering their final year of study; 
  • full time student registered in the Faculty of Humanities & Education, Science & Technology or Social Sciences
J$100,000.00 One (1) One (1) year

The award will be based on:

  • high academic performance in the last academic year's University examinations (at least 3.0);
  • demonstrable community engagements and social awareness;
  • verifiable financial need

Shortlisted candidates will be interviewed by a committe comprising personnel from the University and the Donor Committee. 

The recipient will be required to:

  • participate in a major project that JAFA undertakes; 
  • visit the organization on a meeting day whenever possible. 
Jeremiah Global Scholarship medsci, socsci

The award is available to registered full time students who:

  • are Jamaican nationals;
  • are registered to complete a degree in the Faculty of Social Sciences or Faculty of Medical Sciences;
  • have completed at least one (1) year of the degree programme;
  • are associated with a place of worship or faith-based organization.
J $250,000.00 To be decided by donor One (1) Year

The award will be based on:

  • high academic achievement;
  • verifiable financial need;
  • involvement in co-curricular and/or community activivties;
  • consent to being recognized as a Jeremiah Global Scholar on the website (Name, Photo, Place of Worship and area of study).

The awardee will be selected by representative(s) of the donor and the Office of Student Financing.

Applicants will be required to write a short essay on "You've made it to the top of your profession in the year 2030. What is the value of being future e-minded, globally aware and ethical in becoming an effective leader?"

JMMB BURSARIES socsci

The award is available to Caribbean Nationals who are:

  • registered, full time undergraduate students at Mona School of Business and Management
  • entering second year
J $103,750.00 To be determined by the donor One (1) year

The award will be based on:

 

    • academic performance based on results of the previous academic year University examinations (at least a GPA of 2.6);
    •  financial need

Shortlisted candidates will be interviewed by a panel comprised of JMMB, MSBM and UWI staff. 

One award will be given for each of the following majors: Accounting, Banking & Finance, Finance, Entrepreneurship, Human Resource Management, Management Studies, Marketing, Operations Management, Tourism Management, Management Information Systems  

JMMB Scholarships socsci

The award is available to Caribbean Nationals who are:

 

    • registered, full time undergraduate students at Mona School of Business and Management
    • entering final year
J $270,000.00 To be determined by the donor One (1) year

The award will be based on:

 

    • academic performance based on results of the previous academic year University examinations (at least a GPA of 3.0);
    •  financial need

Shortlisted candidates will be interviewed by a panel comprised of JMMB, MSBM and UWI staff. 

One award will be given for each of the following majors: Accounting, Banking & Finance, Finance, Entrepreneurship, Human Resource Management, Management Studies, Marketing, Operations Management, Tourism Management, Management Information Systems  

JN Life Scholarship fst

The award is available to students who are:

  • Jamaican nationals;
  • final year students pursuing a B.Sc. in the faculty of Science and Technology, Mona Campus (majoring in Actuarial Science).
J$250,000.00 Two (2) One (1) year

The award will be based on:

  • high academic achievement in the annual University Examinations (at least a GPA of 3.3);
  • verifiable financial need.

Short-listed candidates will be interviewed by a panel comprising personnel from the Donor, representatives from the Department of Mathematics and the University of the West Indies.

JOAN DUNCAN FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP FOR JOURNALISM humed

The award is available to Jamaican nationals who are: 

 

    • registered , full time students at Caribbean Institute for Media and Communication (CARIMAC);
    • pursuing a B.A. in Journalism (radio, print or television);
    • entering level two (2) or three (3)
Full Tuition including miscellaneous fees (up to a maximum of J$ 350,000) One (1) Two (2) years

The candidate selected will be required to participate in transformational leadership activities organized by the Joan Duncan Foundation. 

The award will be based on: 

 

    • high academic performance in the last academic year (at least a GPA of 3.3);
    • verifiable financial need;
    • involvement in community development and/or co-curricular activities

Shortlisted candidates will be interviewed by representatives from the University of the West Indies and the Donor. 

JOE PEREIRA SCHOLARSHIP (THE) fst, humed, socsci

The award is available to students:

 

    • Jamaican national;
    • Registered in a full-time government sponsored undergraduate degree programme tenable in the Faculty of Science and Technology OR the Faculty Social Sciences OR the Faculty of Humanities & Education ;
    •  entering Level Two (2) or Three (3) of the degree programme.
J $250,000.00 One (1) One (1) year

The recipient is expected to participate in fifty (50) hours of voluntary service  in an area of service approved by WIGUT (Jamaica)

The award shall be based on:

 

    • high academic achievement (at least a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.3);
    • verifiable financial need.

Short-listed candidates shall be interviewed by a panel comprising personnel from the University and WIGUT (Jamaica).

Jossette Lewis Smikle Scholarship

The award is available to students who:

    • are Jamaican nationals 
    • are studying a Bachelor of Education Degree in Literacy Studies
    • Level of Study : 
      • Full-time students:  1st - 3rd year 
      • Part-time students: 1st - 5th year
Tuition and Miscellaneous Fees One (1) One (1) year

Service Obligation and Bonding: 

All scholarship recipients will be required to serve as teachers in public educational institutions for a period equivalent to the number of years they benefited from the scholarship after graduating from UWI.

Additionally, recipients must complete voluntary service within the School of Education department.


The award will be:

    • Merit-Based: This scholarship is designed to attract outstanding students who are committed to contributing to Jamaica’s educational development.
    • Acadmic performance (at least a GPA of 3.0) 

Application Requirements:

  •  A personal essay outlining:
      •   Career goals.
      • Reasons for pursuing a Bachelor of Education degree.
      • Perspective on the role of education in Jamaica’s national development.
