The Faculty of Social Sciences heartily congratulates Senator Dr Floyd Morris on receiving the 2021 Anthony N Sabga Award for his public and civic contributions to Jamaica. 

The FSS congratulates Professors Aldrie Henry-Lee and Lloyd Waller on their appointments as UWI Strategic Coordinators

Professors Henry-Lee and Waller form part of a team of coordinators that has been tasked with helping to ensure the effective synchronisation of operational activities and new initiatives across The UWI system, as the University further advances its Triple A Strategic Plan. The coordinators will complement the current management structure, serving as data gatherers and knowledge providers to the Executive Management Team (EMT) and facilitating a strengthened information network of Principals and PVCs.

Instructions

  • This form is to be completed by FSS students who have been contacted by their department to receive award(s) or recognition at the FSS Virtual Award Ceremony.  These include (a) departmental or cross-campus awards/prizes for exceptional performance in a course or programme, (b) recognition for having obtained First Class Honours, Distinction or High Commendation in their respective degrees, and (c) induction in the FSS Honours Society.
  • All students are required to upload a high quality, digital, passport-sized photo (graduation or any other) in jpeg, jpg or png files (max size 3Mb).  See upload option below. 
  • The dress code for non-graduation photo is as follows:  Females: Business attire | Males: Dark-coloured jacket, white shirt and tie or long-sleeved, white shirt and tie. 
  • Graduating students (i.e., first class, distinction and high commendation recipients) are required to create a hashtag, consisting of no more than 3 words and no emojis, that best describes their academic journey. For example: #FSSMONAROCKS.
  • The deadline for the submission of this form is December 9, 2022.
  • Alternatively, students may send their photo to fsocsci@uwimona.edu.jm only if they experience challenges with the form.  If this option is chosen, students must ensure that 'Virtual Award Ceremony' and their full name are included in the subject line.
We will accept a UWI graduation photos or a regular passport size photo. The dress code for non-graduation portraits is as follows: Females: Business attire | Males: Dark-coloured jacket, white shirt and tie or long-sleeved white shirt and tie.

Professor Eris D. Schoburgh is Appointed President of the Caribbean Studies Association

Professor Eris D. Schoburgh has been elevated to the position of President of the Caribbean Studies Association (CSA) at the meeting of the Executive Council (EC) convened after the 2021 annual conference. She served previously as the organisation’s Vice-President.

Reopening of the Faculty Office

Following the lifting of the work-from-home order by the Government of Jamaica, the Social Sciences Faculty Office has resumed in-office operations as of June 1, 2020, between the hours of 8:30am - 3:30pm.  See details at link below.
