The Inaugural James Moss-Solomon MEMORIAL LECTURE

Jamaica lost a gifted and loyal son of the soil with the passing of  James “Jimmy “ Moss-Solomon, business executive, philanthropist and mentor extraordinaire on January 4, 2022. 

Mona School of Business and Management (MSBM), UWI, Mona, had the privilege of his extraordinary intellect and experience as Executive in Residence, where he leveraged his years of executive management experience, social capital and vast personal and business networks to provide tremendous support to faculty, staff and students.

Twelve undergrad students from The University of the West Indies (The UWI) are among the Millennium Fellowship Class of 2022, an international cohort of student leaders awarded fellowships to manage real-world projects that help advance The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

A native of the unassuming community of Belvedere, St. Andrew, Tamarnie Tavares grew up in a nuclear family where she is the second of three (3) children and takes pride in being the middle child. Her journey thus far has been challenging, nevertheless, she continues to be eternally grateful for the love and support she has gotten over the years.

When you walk the office hall of the Faculty of Social Sciences you are first greeted by a wall furnished with history. This rich history and legacy of leadership dates to the 1960s and accounts for 14 Deans all of whom have been men of excellence and impeccable stature.
