An Extract of Neem Leaves Reduces Anxiety without Causing Motor Side Effects in an Experimental Model

Anxiety levels were assessed after treatment with either a steroidal extract of neem leaves or diazepam. An animal model of anxiety, the elevated X maze, provided reliable evidence of anxiolysis without motor deficit in neem treated rats.

There is identified qnr-mediated quinolone resistance and qnr co-determinants among enterobacteriaceae isolates in Jamaica.

ABSTRACT

Objective: Quinolone resistance is usually caused by various chromosomal mutations, but has been more recently associated with plasmids which carry the qnr determinant. The aim of this study is to investigate the prevalence of qnr genes in clinical isolates of Enterobacteriaceae in Jamaica.

Objective: In this article, we aimed to analyse the anxiety and depression levels of medical student’s related to their desire for a career in medicine and expectations from that career.

Methods: In a cross-sectional design, students from the first two years of medical school filled-out a questionnaire consisting of demographics, Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scales (HADS) and questions about their medical career decision.

Degenerative Disc Disease of the lumbar spine occurred in older and heavier patients. Gender did not affect the presence or the extent of the disease. However, compared to females, males showed a marginally increased tendency to have degenerative disc disease at L1/2 and L5/S1.

Paranasal osteomas may present as rhinosinusitis and occasionally cause complications depending on anatomical location. Ethmoidal and fronto-ethmoidal osteomas are readily diagnosed using computed tomography and are increasingly being resected endoscopically. Bilateral ethmoidal osteomas are rare. An evidence-based management plan is presented.

This manuscript examines the effect of a plyometric training programme on power and agility in a sample of Jamaica’s National Netball Team. The outcomes utilized were the Vertical Jump Test, Standing Broad Jump Test and Illinois Agility Test.

Objective: Plyometric training is widely used in conditioning, power training and in prevention and rehabilitation of injuries in some sports. This study sought to investigate the effect of a three-week plyometric training programme on jump performance and agility in Jamaican national netball players.
