Relationship Between ABO Blood Group and the Incidence of Gestational Diabetes in Pregnant Women ‎in Gorgan, North of Iran‎

DOI:
10.7727/wimj.2015.257
Synopsis:
So far, the relationships between blood groups and 70 diseases had been established. Therefore, the present study was conducted, for the determination of the relationship between ABO blood groups with GDM. The findings showed that blood group O had preventive effects on the development of GDM and subjects with non O blood group were more likely to suffer from GDM.

ABSTRACT

INTRODUCTION: Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) is defined as a glucose intolerance that first occurs during pregnancy (1). ABO blood group has an important role in the human body Physiology.Early detection and treatment of GDM reduce its complications  (3).So far, the relationship between blood group and 70 disease has been identified. Therefore, the present study were conducted, for determination  the relationship between ABO blood groups with GDM.

The Effect of Epidural Levobupivacaine and Fentanyl on Stress Response and Pain Management in Patients Undergoing Percutaneous Nephrolithotomy

DOI:
10.7727/wimj.2015.095
Synopsis:
The aim of this study was to assess the efficiency of two different methods of anesthesia on endocrine and metabolic responses of patients undergoing PNL (Percutaneus nephrolitotomy). Combined epidural analgesia, added to general anesthesia, may be a comfortable anaesthesia method in PNL with suppression of intraoperative and postoperative stress response and less pain scores in the early postoperative period.

ABSTRACT

Objective: The perioperative stress response of patients who were planned to have percutaneous nephrolithotomy under epidural anesthaesia with opioids and local anesthetics has not been investigated in detail. Our hypothesis is that the stress response following percutaneous nephrolithotomy can be lessened by epidural analgesia.

A Study of Quality Control Circle on the Reduction of the surgical Site Infection

DOI:
10.7727/wimj.2015.346
Synopsis:
We discussed the value and significance of the quality control circle (QCC). The results showed that QCC could reduce the surgical site infection (SSI) rates, which suggests that QCC could be employed as an effective tool to improve the medical quality.

ABSTRACT

Objective: The aim of this study was to discuss the value and significance of quality control circle (QCC) in the reduction of the surgical site infection (SSI).

Methods: From January 2012 to December 2013, a total of 32 patients with surgical site infection were included in the study. Quality control circle was established to control the SSI in these patients. The tangible and intangible results of QCC were compared and analysed.

Do the Different Types of Pulmonary Hypertension Cause the Same Effect on Right Heart and Serum Asymmetrıcal Dimethylarginine Levels in Female Patients?

Issue:
DOI:
10.7727/wimj.2015.319
Pages:
26-31
Synopsis:
This study aimed to evaluate if the different types of pulmonary hypertension had the same effect on right-heart functions and serum asymmetric dimethylarginine levels in female patients. It was found that pulmonary arterial hypertension caused more impaired right-heart functions than pulmonary venous hypertension.

ABSTRACT

Objective: Right-heart function is a major determinant of clinical outcome in patients with elevated pulmonary artery pressure due to pulmonary venous hypertension (PVH) and pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH). Asymmetric dimethylarginine (ADMA) is an endogenous inhibitor of nitric oxide synthase. This study aimed to evaluate if different types of pulmonary hypertension (PH) would cause the same effect on right-heart functions and serum ADMA levels in female patients.

Serum Ghrelin Levels in Patients with Chronic Urticaria and Atopic Dermatitis and Its Relationship with Metabolic Syndrome

Issue:
DOI:
10.7727/wimj.2015.392
Pages:
27-31
Synopsis:
We detected higher serum ghrelin levels in the patients with chronic urticaria and atopic dermatitis than the controls. We think that the high levels of serum ghrelin in the patients with chronic urticaria and atopic dermatitis may be related to the other mechanisms.

ABSTRACT

Objective: Chronic urticaria is a systemic inflammatory disease. Atopic dermatitis is a chronic immunological disease that is characterized by an increase in systemic inflammatory response. In several studies, chronic urticaria and atopic dermatitis were reported to be associated metabolic syndrome (MetS). In this study, we aimed to investigate the serum ghrelin levels in the patients with chronic urticaria and atopic dermatitis.

Issue:
DOI:
10.7727/wimj.2015.420
Pages:
216-21
Synopsis:
In the present study, the corrected QT interval (QTc) was measured in a healthy sample in Changsha, China. The findings were that the peak incidences of long and short QTc existed in two separate groups in the healthy sample.

ABSTRACT

DOI:
10.7727/wimj.2015.432
Synopsis:
This study deals with the menstrual cycle and the presence of premenstrual symptoms and dysmenorrhoea amongst Spanish schoolgirls and students. The characteristics of the menstrual cycle of 130 participants are described. The risk of suffering premenstrual symptoms and dysmenorrhoea increases with age.

ABSTRACT

Objective: To study the menstrual cycle and the presence of premenstrual symptoms and dysmenorrhoea amongst Spanish schoolgirls and students.

Methods: Description of the characteristics of the menstrual cycle of 130 schoolgirls and students. Analysis of the link between variables using the χ² test of independence with a significance level of 5%. Magnitude of the link quantified through binary or multinomial logistic regression.
