Copyright and the Mona Library

Copyright is a legal right that allows the copyright owner to copy, reproduce, perform or communicate the work to the public. The majority of the material in the UWI library- whether published in Jamaica or not- is covered by the Copyright Act (1993). The Library does not own the rights to most of the items in its collections. Users may copy material for private study, research, criticism and review and reporting news. The Copyright Act allows fair dealing, such as copying up to one chapter of a book, or copying one article from a journal for research or study.
