The Clinical Significance of DNA Ploidy Analysis in Patients with Rectal Carcinoma and Precancerous Lesion

Issue:
DOI:
10.7727/wimj.2015.437
Pages:
551-6
Synopsis:
In this study, we explored the clinical significance of DNA ploidy analysis in rectal carcinoma and precancerous lesions. In conclusion, DNA ploidy analysis could be a valuable tool to evaluate the proliferation status and malignant degree of rectal carcinoma.

ABSTRACT

Objectives: In recent years, DNA ploidy analysis is regarded to migh have important values in diagnosis and prognostic judgment of malignant tumor. The aim of this study was to explore the clinical significance of DNA ploidy analysis in patients with rectal carcinoma and its precancerous lesions.

Radiographic Anatomy and Calcaneal Width Measurements on Tangential View

Issue:
DOI:
10.7727/wimj.2014.357
Pages:
197–201
Synopsis:
Tangential calcaneal X-rays were performed on 30 patients with fractured calcaneus and 57 control individuals with normal calcaneus. Results demonstrated that tangential X-ray view of the calcaneus can be used to evaluate its radiographic anatomy and to measure its width.

ABSTRACT

Aim: To investigate the radiographic anatomical characters of the bones in the fractured calcaneus by using tangential X-rays.

Issue:
DOI:
10.7727/wimj.2014.368
Pages:
500-04
Synopsis:
D-dimer levels between patients with acute aortic dissection (AAD) were compared with patients acute intramural hematoma (AIH) retrospectively to determine whether there is any difference of serum D-dimer levels between patients with (AIH) and patients with AAD.

Abstract

Objective: The aim of this study wasto evaluate whether there is difference of serum D-dimer between patients with aortic intramural hematoma and patients with classic acute aortic dissection.

Investigation of the Association of Interleukin-21 and Macroprolactine Levels with Anti-thyroid Antibodies in Patients with Hashimoto Thyroiditis

Issue:
DOI:
10.7727/wimj.2014.386
Pages:
124–27
Synopsis:
Hashimoto thyroiditis is part of the spectrum of autoimmune thyroid diseases. Our results showed that neither macroprolactin nor prolactin levels has any relationship with anti-thyroid antibodies. Interleukin-21 levels of the control group were higher than in the study group.

DOI:
10.7727/wimj.2014.345
Pages:
316-9
Synopsis:
Shock, endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography plus surgery, advanced age, low platelet count, presence of co-morbidities, door to treatment time > 24 hours, hypoproteinaemia and hyperbilirubinaemia were the independent risk factors for death of elderly patients with acute obstructive suppurative cholangitis.

The Risk Factors of Chronic Kidney Disease among Nursing Home Residents

Issue:
DOI:
10.7727/wimj.2014.249
Pages:
267–70
Synopsis:
Metabolic syndrome may be a main contributant to the aetiology of chronic kidney disease (CKD) among nursing home residents. Monitoring body mass index (BMI) and waist circumference is a simple but effective way to suspect presence of CKD.

ABSTRACT

Introduction: The prevalence of end-stage renal disease in Taiwan is the highest in the world; hemodialysis accounts about 7% of the expenditure of the National Health Insurance. Nursing home residents with chronic kidney disease (CKD) have not been identified yet in Taiwan, along with associated risk factors. The objective of this study is to investigate the risk factors of CKD in long-term care facilities in Taiwan and those significantly associated with the presence of CKD.

Study on the Clinicopathological Features and Prognostic Factors of Extranodal NK/T Cell Lymphoma, Nasal Type

DOI:
10.7727/wimj.2015.052
Synopsis:
We conducted a retrospective analysis of the clinicopathological records of 18 extranodal NK/T cell lymphoma cases treated in Union Hospital of Fujian Medical University from May 2007 to May 2012, with follow-up of patients and univariate and multivariate analysis of the clinicopathological parameters, treatment and two-year survival rate. ENKCL lesions developed rapidly with poor prognosis. Though today we promote the comprehensive treatment of ENKCL, chemotherapy is still of great importance. Individualized treatment needs to be further studied and prognostic indicators of greater clinicopathological significance for ENKCL are worthy of further exploration.

ABSTRACT

Aim: The study is to analyze the clinicopathological features of extranodal NK/T cell lymphoma, nasal type (ENKCL) and its treatment and efficacy, to provide a scientific basis for individualized treatment.

Flow Mediated Vasodilation and some Biomarkers of Endothelial Activation in Pre-hypertensive Objects

DOI:
10.7727/wimj.2015.033
Synopsis:
The goal of the study is to assess endothelial activation by FMD and ADMA, sICAM and sVCAM levels in pre-Hypertensive objects. Compared to intima-media thickness, these data are going to be evaluated as an eventual predicators of pre-hypertensive objects. Compared to intima-media thickness, these data were to be evaluated as eventual predicators of pre-hypertension.
