Effects of the Intermittent Injection with Super-Low Pressure on the Postoperative Pain Control during the Uterine Artery Embolization for Uterine Myoma

DOI:
10.7727/wimj.2015.053
Synopsis:
The application of intermittent injection with super-low pressure during UAE can decrease and possibly eliminate post-operative pain. The injection pressure was as low as possible; the injected dose of the embolic agent should be gradually decreased.

ABSTRACT

Objective: Uterine artery embolization (UAE) has been commonly used for uterine myoma with satisfactory effects, but the pain during and following the procedure with an occurrence rate in 100%.The aim of this study was to observe the effects of intermittent injection with super-low pressure on pain control during the UAE for uterine myoma.

Magnetic Resonance Imaging Measurements of Corpus Callosum in Childhood: Determination of Normative Values

Issue:
DOI:
10.7727/wimj.2015.066
Pages:
598–604
Synopsis:
Even mild structural disorders of Corpus callosum (CC) may be important in the diagnosis of neurological diseases or syndromes in childhood. Therefore, it’s important to determine the reference values of CC dimensions in healthy children. These data can be applied to clinical practice.

The Relationship Between The Urinary and Serum Levels of ‎Adiponectin with Disease Activity in Patients with Lupus

DOI:
10.7727/wimj.2015.268
Synopsis:
Anti-inflammatory cytokines, such as adiponectin, ‎change in inflammatory diseases. This study aimed to evaluate the ‎relationship between the urinary and serum level of adiponectin with disease activity in patients ‎with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE).‎

ABSTRACT

Objective: Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is a connective tissue disease with chronic and ‎recurrent and inflammatory progression. Antiinflammatory cytokines such as adiponectin ‎change in this disease like other inflammatory diseases. This study aimed to evaluate the ‎relationship between urinary and serum level of Adiponectin with disease activity in patients ‎with SLE.‎

The Role of Mean Platelet Volume as an Inflammatory Marker in Children with Allergic Rhinitis

Issue:
DOI:
10.7727/wimj.2015.266
Pages:
395-8
Synopsis:
Although platelets are known to participate actively in both allergic and non-allergic types of inflammation, the mean platelet volume cannot be used as an indicator of inflammation in children with allergic rhinitis.

 ABSTRACT

Objective: The mean platelet volume (MPV) is a potential marker of platelet reactivity. Increased MPV levels are shown to be the predictors of inflammations. The aim of this study was to investigate whether MPV is an inflammatory indicator in children with allergic rhinitis.

Circulating Adipokine Levels in Non-diabetic Subjects with High Normal Blood Pressure

Issue:
DOI:
10.7727/wimj.2014.332
Pages:
260–2
Synopsis:
Adipokines are adipocyte-secreted peptides that are involved in several pathways that lead to insulin resistance, inflammation, atherosclerosis and cardiovascular disease. Increased levels of resistin and/or decreased levels of adiponectin are associated with cardiovascular mortality and the development of hypertension.

ABSTRACT

Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the levels of the adipokines, resistin and adiponectin in normotensive and high normal blood pressure patients.

Continuous Renal Replacement Treatment for Critically Ill Victims of Earthquakes

DOI:
10.7727/wimj.2015.534
Synopsis:
After the observation of applications in 23 patients, it can be concluded that CRRT is an efficient treatment for patients with earthquake-caused ARF, especially those complicated with MODS, sepsis or IHD, uncontrolled haemodynamic status.

ABSTRACT

Background: Several severe earthquakes hit China in recent years. Critically ill earthquake victims were usually complicated with crush injuries and acute renal injury (AKI). CRRT were performed in these patients and received very satisfactory results.

Application of Computer Navigation-assisted Thoracoscopic Surgery in Resection of Rib Tumour

DOI:
10.7727/wimj.2015.528
Synopsis:
Based on our clinical experiences, the combined surgical method is especially feasible for the tiny tumour or some tumours that are unreachable or resided in scapula and deep face of breast.

ABSTRACT

Objective: Excision of rib tumors by conventional surgical method often results in poor prognosis due to trauma and heavily bleeding. In the present study, we evaluated the advantages of applying computer navigation-assisted thoracoscope in the resection of rib tumors.
