A Multicentre Study of Nursing Leadership in Andalusian Hospitals from a Gender-based Perspective

Issue:
DOI:
10.7727/wimj.2015.467
Pages:
74-80
Synopsis:
In today’s world, leadership is a key factor in the coordination and direction of the personnel in healthcare centres. Consequently, it is crucial to determine the predominant leadership behaviours typical of the different nursing management levels and to analyse how this leadership was reflected in the daily interactions among the supervisors and their subordinates. The results will ultimately lead to a more efficient hospital system and a more effective use of human resources.

ABSTRACT

Introduction: Leadership is the ability to guide subordinates in a direction or decision so that they can perform a task or achieve a goal that leaves them feeling empowered and accomplished. Leaders are capable of producing changes and at the same time, they inspire others to do the same. This research analysed gender-based differences and dimensions of nursing leadership styles in 18 hospitals in Andalusia, a region of southern Spain.

Favorable Results of Patients with pT1a, b, c, Lymph Node-negative Early Breast Cancer in the Long-interval

DOI:
10.7727/wimj.2015.465
Synopsis:
The T1a group had a worse prognosis than T1b and T1c groups (p>0.05) . Our demonstrated that adjuvant hormonal therapy and hormonal therapy plus chemotherapy reduced the risk of recurrence and death from early breast cancer regardless of initial treatment.

ABSTRACT

Background: The clinical characteristics of patients who had lymph node-negative early breast cancer were assessed.

Socio-economic Inequality in Professionally Administered Topical Fluoride among Mexican Schoolchildren

Issue:
DOI:
10.7727/wimj.2014.361
Pages:
275–81
Synopsis:
Periodic dental visits have been recommended for preventive treatment. The experience of having fluoride administered by a dentist in the previous year was low in this sample of Mexican schoolchildren. Additionally, we identify and characterize socio-economic inequalities for this intervention.

ABSTRACT

Objective: To identify and characterize socio-economic inequalities in professionally administered topical fluoride treatment to schoolchildren.

Reduced Male:Female Ratio at Birth in Small Islands

Issue:
DOI:
10.7727/wimj.2014.195
Pages:
177–9
Synopsis:
The male:female ratio at birth (M/F: male divided by total births) approximates 0.515. In The Bahamas, Barbados, Puerto Rico, Trinidad and Tobago, and Mauritius, M/F from 1960–2009 was only 0.5106 (95% CL 0.5101, 0.5110). There were no secular trends in M/F.

ABSTRACT

Background: The male:female ratio at birth (M/F: male births divided by total births) is anticipated to approximate 0.515. The M/F in Micronesia in the Pacific Ocean has been noted to be higher than anticipated. This study analysed M/F in island populations available from a World Health Organization dataset.

Issue:
DOI:
10.7727/wimj.2015.178
Pages:
606-11
Synopsis:
In this study, the oxidant/antioxidant status in pregnant women above the threshold for Down syndrome risk, according to the prenatal test, was investigated. Non-enzymatic, antioxidant capacity in pregnant women at high risk of bearing a Down syndrome-affected fetus was found to decrease.

ABSTRACT

Objective: To establish the oxidant/antioxidant status in serum samples from pregnant women above the threshold for Down syndrome (DS) risk, according to the quadruple test.

Imaging–anatomic Measurements of Carotid Artery Bifurcation

Issue:
DOI:
10.7727/wimj.2015.075
Pages:
207-11
Synopsis:
Carotid artery bifurcation (CAB) was measured on three-dimensional images of 64-spiral CT angiography, which can clearly observe and show the CAB. All of CAB measurements will provide the objective basis for applied anatomy, imaging diagnosis and surgery treatment.

ABSTRACT

Objective: To have anatomic measurements of carotid artery bifurcation (CAB) with 64-spiral computed tomography angiography (64-SCTA), and provide anatomic basis for related research.
